You start your walk in the harbor of Oud-Beijerland. From here you walk along the shore of the Spui to the edge of the village. Oud-Beijerland was founded around the year 1559, after dikes were laid to protect the land from the water. In 1421 the Sint-Elisabeth flood caused large parts of the land to be flooded and that happened again and again in the years after. The dikes stopped this from happening and only then was the area habitable. In the 17th century the country was further expanded by mining polders. On the edge of Oud-Beijerland and the dike village Goidschalxord you will find the mill of Goidschalxord. This corn mill was built here in 1718 and until 1953 the mill turned. After that, the mill fell sharply, but since 2010 the mill is in good condition after a large-scale restoration.
