De Drie Beijerlanden route(The Three Bavarian Route)

The area where now Oud-Beijerland in 1557 became habitable. The Count Lamoral of Egmond raised the rights for this area and founded the village of Beijerland in 1559. The village is named after the wife of the count, Sabina of Bavaria.Because in the new polder a village with almost the same name was founded, Nieuw-Beijerland, Beijerland got the name Oud-Beijerland. Later a village was founded in the south of the Hoeksche Waard named Zuid-Beijerland.

During this cycle tour you will visit the "Three Beijerlanden" to know; Oud-Beijerland, Zuid-Beijerland and Nieuw-Beijerland. This route gives you the peace, space and especially the beauty of the Hoeksche Waard see. You pass numerous beautiful dikes, fields and creeks. Here and there you will find historic farms and special mills. You can also take a trip to the beautiful island Tiengemeten.
