This mill maintains the water level in the polder. There is also an electric pumping station nowadays. But the Poldersche mill is still used regularly. Here you see the function of the mill biotope;free to catch wind, good water storage and a large wheel to bring the water to a higher level, or just down. The miller on this mill was really vital!The first mill was in 1514. Afterwards came a fucking mill in 1637. The current stone mill has been there since 1749. Beautiful detail: the tarred walls. That was to keep it waterproof. Not nice, but functional.
